Central Colorado 2003
Days 5, 6 and 7 - Hiking and Biking
and Return to Atlanta

Brian and I spent our last two days in Breckenridge enjoying outdoor activities, and this page the activities on those days.

Day 5 - Saturday - Hiking
On Saturday morning, we joined my mother for a hike of the flumes that run through the Highlands, the development where my parent's house is located.  It was a 45-minute hike, with a number of foresty sights.  Fortunately, we didn't see any wild animals, except for the two ladies walking in the opposite direction.

The flumes are old trails on which the mining vehicles traveled

After showering and eating breakfast, the three of us headed into Breckenridge.  We decided to head to the base of the Peak Eight chairlift, where we could ride to the top of the ski range as well as ride down the Alpine slide.  Both activities were a great deal of fun - the Alpine slide is a definite must for those that love water slides, as the concept is similar.

The ticket for the chair lift The ticket for the Alpine slide, which also required us to sign a waiver.  I had my legal counsel review it first; I wonder if he considered those billable hours?

In the wintertime, this is most likely a Black or a Mogul run. Looking north toward Lake Dillon

Day 6 - Sunday - Biking and Shopping
On Sunday, Brian, my father and I biked into Frisco, where we met my mother for lunch.  Most of the ride was on a bike pathway that runs parallel to CO-9.  We took a detour into the Frisco Nordic Center, which afforded us great views of Lake Dillon.  We then met my mother for lunch in Frisco, which was followed by a visit to the outlet malls in Silverthorne.  I was looking for a belt, which I found at the Nautica store.  Brian bought some workout shorts at the Gap outlet, and I don't believe my mother found anything that day.

The pictures below are courtesy of my father, the photographer on our biking expedition.

Day 7 - Heading Home
After six wonderful days in Breckenridge and central Colorado, it was time to head home.  I'm sure we'll be back, hopefully for a week of skiing.  Delta Air Lines flight 1650 whisked us back to Atlanta and we arrived home at a decent hour.
