Editor's NoteAs of this writing (December, 2002), the economic and political situation in Argentina remained stable.  Though the peso has been devalued by almost 350% in the past year, there appears to be no impending doom-and-gloom in the country.  This situation, however, may change drastically in the coming months during the runup to general elections, expected in the spring.  If you are planning a trip to Argentina in early 2003, please consult the United States Department of State website for information about the country's economic and political environment.

Prologue
Though I had traveled extensively through Latin America, I had never been to Argentina.  I had considered visiting the country while I was living in Dallas, but it was difficult to reach as it required a connection through Miami.  When I moved to Atlanta, it became easier to reach, as Delta offered nonstop service between Atlanta and Buenos Aires (service which was discontinued, unfortunately, on 1 December 2002).  I had planned to visit during November, 2001, but the economic situation was highly unstable, so I postponed my trip.

During my summer vacation in August, 2002 in Colorado, I decided to start planning again a trip to Argentina.  I figured that the economic situation had stabilized and the current government had been in place for several months, so it seemed like a safe place to visit.  Since there were so many places that I wanted to see in the country, I decided to limit my scope to two destinations: Buenos Aires and Salta.

I started planning for the trip in early September, but most of the actual planning work occurred in October and November.  Though I don't like to be a last minute person, it seems like this trip crept up on me.  But, I accomplished everything that I wanted, and it was a great trip because of it.  I used several guide books to plan the trip; I have listed those books below, plus links to their websites.  While my information is good, these books and websites can provide the most current information about the destination and its attractions.
