Travel Resources
There are a couple of travel books written in English on Croatia, including:

The national tourist board operates a great website with an abundance of information.  It provides historical information for many towns, as well as lodging and travel information.  Many of the towns also have their own tourism websites, to which I refer on each of their individual pages in this section.

For historical information, I found one book on Croatian history.  It is a good read and provides a significant amount of factual information that the reader can relate to places in the country.  In my opinion, the book focuses too much on the recent history, but that is the most common link for people.

The Encyclopćdia Britannica also provided an excellent overview of the nation's history.  The CIA Factbook provides demographic and economic information that may be helpful.  As I always recommend, check the State Department website for any travel advisories that may have been issued for Croatia.

The Croatian People
Unfortunately, the Croatians have discovered the art of gum-chewing.  They've also picked up the bad habits of Americans - popping and cracking their gum.  This is most prevalent amongst the young girls.  It is the most annoying sound in the world, and I thought that only Americans made it.  I guess not!
